Listening to Si SCHROEDER
Anyone who names tunes after Jackson Pollock paintings is fine by me. Coping Mechanisms by Dublin’s Si Schroeder has just been voted Best Irish Album of 2006 on the excellent Ireland-based music blog, Nialler9
Out of how many? Well according to Sinéad there were 170 full length Irish albums released this year. That’s a lot - more than the proverbial hot dinners I’ve had this year (I’ve counted).
I’ve only heard from Si Schroeder’s Coping Mechanisms what is out there on MySpace and other such places, but it’s on my Christmas list - and you can buy it for me HERE. It’s sumptuous, sparing, inventive, and intoxicatingly rhythmic.
This might not mean anything to you but I can paint when I listen to this, smiling or crying during any of the tracks. In other words, it doesn’t get any better.
