Kansas City’s Celtic Block Party
In case you missed it, here’s a recap of the Irish festival in south Kansas City that is today’s Celtic Block Party at Governor Stumpy’s.
Location
Located where Brookside meets Waldo at Gregory Boulevard and Oak, Governor Stumpy’s is hosting the 7th annual Celtic Block Party.
Entertainment
With 3 Celtic Rock bands from Kansas City on the bill, you can expect a big sound today, but first you’ll have your children entertained:
• 3:30pm Jim Cosgrove AKA Mr Stinky Feet
• 4pm Connacht Town
• 5pm (*) The Elders
• 6pm Flannigan’s Right Hook
Those times are taken from each of the bands respective MySpace pages, but I’d get there at 3pm and then take those times with a pinch of salt if I were you.
Weather
Your hourly weather forecast predicts temperatures in the mid-60s and sunny through the event.
Gaelic Games
The Kansas City Gaelic Athletic Club will have a booth, so you’ll have another opportunity to learn about the Irish sports of Hurling and Gaelic Football.
Charity
The Annual Celtic Block Party is run as a benefit for Operation Breakthrough
Admission
Tickets are $10 if purchased in advance (from Governor Stumpy’s, Needham Floral, or Locks & Pulls) but this being Sunday I imagine you’ve missed your chance this year, so $15 on the day of the event is what you’re looking at. Children under 12 are free.
Summary
Big crowds, fine music, good people, good cause, good value. Throw in kids, beer, and general festival stuff and you have one of the highlights of the year in Kansas City’s Irish calendar.
I’ve heard 7 or 7:30 from the Elders themselves for when they play.
That makes a lot more sense, and ties in with the more usual times. Thanks.
