Kansas Actor Kip Niven in Irish Play at KU
Kip Niven, who I mentioned is a special guest star in the Irish play Translations by Brian Friel, is featured in the Lawrence Journal-World
A Prairie Village, Kansas native and KU alum, Niven is returning to Murphy Hall as an actor for the first time in 40 years.
In Irish playwright Brian Friel’s Translations, Niven plays Hugh, the colorful schoolmaster of an Irish village in 19th century Ireland adapting to the remapping and renaming process by the ruling British.
“It takes the stereotypical character of an Irish drunk and turns it on its head,” Niven says. “He’s extremely smart. He speaks fluent Latin, Gaelic, Greek and English. He’s extremely foolish, bombastic, over the top.”
The dates of the performances of Translations are on the KC Irish Events calendar.
