Irish Tenor John Mc Dermott in Kansas City

This is a big one Kansas City. John McDermott, the Scottish-born Irish tenor, is performing a concert at the KC Music Hall on Saturday October 27, 2007 at 8:00 pm.
Remembrance is a celebration of Celtic and patriot music and it’s also a salute to vets.
McDermott’s story is a great story of hard work and success following the discovery of his talent in the 1990s. One of the original Irish Tenors with Finbar Wright and Anthony Kearns, John McDermott’s repertoire ranges through all the Celtic classics and more modern ballads about loss and remembrance such as And The Band Played Waltzing Mathilda. I’ve previously extolled the quality of Fairytale of New York, as sung by McDermott with Kearns and Wright as the Irish Tenors.

When we first immigrated to Canada, the very first weekend we moved in, my father went and knocked on all of the neighborsÌ doors and he invited everybody to come over. Needless to say, nobody came. But, he did the same thing the following week and eventually, one or two people came. And soon, he didn’t have to invite anybody any more. Because the word soon spread that if you got an invitation to McDermott’s place, you just had to go. My father would invite friends and the neighbor’s families over to discuss the events of the day, and eventually, we always got around to singing. We made our own entertainment. We did not have a television set. We made do.
