Irish Stories That Shouldn’t Exist
At the moment I’m not in Ireland; I’m in England working temporarily so I don’t have a whole lot to say. Well I do of course - I just don’t have a whole lot of time to say it.
So let me say something much more important.
Of all the things that have hit me since I returned to Ireland in September, by far the most infuriating is the state of the health service.
Of course I haven’t been living in a vacuum so sadly it’s not a surprise. But it is nonetheless shocking.
I hear stories every day that simply shouldn’t exist. They’re much the same horror stories of the health service I was hearing when I left Ireland almost 9 years ago, and the concerns of politicians come across as meaningless particularly in the light of the two most recent scandals that should have finally given the impetus for some sort of action to be taken.
In a week where Irish media has again given far too much attention to the non-story of celebrity, here is just one of those stories that shouldn’t exist.
Update: The story gets longer
Thanks for bringing this some attention Eolai. Unfortunately the saga continues. Turns out they shut down service in the Midlands altogether and neglected to tell anyone, including the referring GPs who theoretically would need to refer elsewhere now. Very sad indeed!
