Lillies Bordello
Speaking of Lillies Bordello, well, I don’t like Lillies.
Whenever I would walk down that side of Grafton Street where the alley comes out, the bouncers would refuse me entry to the alley when I didn’t even want entry to the alley - I would just be walking past.
The bouncers at Buskers on Fleet Street in Temple Bar would do this to me also causing me to cross the street rather than walk directly past them.
So to this day I have a network of routes I follow when walking around Dublin to prevent bouncers lowering my self-esteem any further by denying me entry to pubs and nightclubs I’m not trying to enter. Trickier than Joyce’s Dublin puzzle.
Ahh Lilly’s Bordello, what a place. You bring up good memories, I’m afraid I was a frequent visitor their whilst working at the Gaiety. It was actually quite a good club but you had to be a part of the “theatre” crowd primarily to gain entry.
Somebody got me into Lillies once Francis, and it was so effortless for them I was wondering why it was so hard for the rest of us. But then the whole time I was in there I kept expecting a tap on the shoulder and being asked to leave to rectify the mistake of letting me in.
