Irish Gay Icon: The Man Who Shot Michael Collins
Born in Dublin just in time to see Luke Skywalker learn how to kill the leader of the opposition, Jonathan Rhys Meyers grew up fairly quickly to kill Michael Collins on De Valera’s Neil Jordan’s orders.
He then progressed on to reject Kiera Knightley in Bend it like a British Gay Icon, which was just asking for it.
And so it was that the sultry Irish actor was launched into his own gay icon superstardom, of which the recent Woody Allen thriller about a young Irish man in tennis whites wasn’t exactly going to stop now, was it?
Irish Abroad carries a report on Jonathan’s recent award of Hottest Straight Guy We Wish Was Gay from Out magazine. It includes a few quotes from JRM on the topic including, in response to whether he has gay friends:
Oh, God, yes. I have an apartment in Morocco with a load of old gay ex-pats who can’t be gay at home so they run around Morocco
All of which reminds me that tonight you can watch Eddie Delahunt play Irish music in a pink shirt.
Actually, it really reminds me that tonight is the final night of the 3rd International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival, so if you’re reading in Dublin it’s time to clasp a green carnation between your teeth and catch the bus.
