Irish Conversation in the American Midwest #20
Taking Your Turn
-I want you to drive now
-I’m sorry, but I can’t drive
-It’s okay; you can
-But I can’t
-You can; it’s my car
-It doesn’t matter who owns the car; I can’t actually drive
-You mean they won’t let you drive?
-No I mean I cannot drive
-They won’t find out
-I know they won’t, because they don’t exist. And if they did they still wouldn’t find out because I wouldn’t be driving. Because I CAN’T
-I’m okay with you driving, really
-That’s very kind of you but I really can’t drive
-Just in here then, in the parking lot, they’ll never know
-I can’t drive. The car park doesn’t change that
-Why aren’t you allowed to drive?
-Probably because I can’t
-Why are you afraid of them?
-Who?
-Whoever won’t let you drive
-I simply can’t drive; that’s all
-I don’t have a problem with you driving. Just for a few minutes, please?
-I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DRIVE A CAR
-Oh, you can’t drive?
