In the closet: Tom Powers
Speaking of Immigration and of the World Cup from here in the USA, I somehow missed this little gem from Tom Powers in the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
In fairness I’ve seen pieces in every region of the States, on soccer in general or the World Cup specifically, that are just like this - the usual anti-soccer jokes, and even the willing neutrals or enthusiasts come across as five-year-olds such is their ignorance of the sport, but Powers at least is topical:
If the government really is serious about identifying illegal immigrants, it soon will be provided a unique opportunity to record their whereabouts.
All the Department of Homeland Security has to do is monitor the city-by-city television ratings of this month’s World Cup soccer tournament. Agents should be dispatched to any area in which the ratings reflect an unnaturally high level of interest. That likely signals a concentrated pocket of illegals
Most people I know who care not about something, tend not to speak about it. Tom, get out of that closet!
