Glen Road with Tommy Martin
Speaking of Glen Road, they play this Sunday, October 15th, at Lewis and Clark Community College over in Godfrey, Illinois. Both Mike Dugger and Turlach Boylan are major figures in the traditional Irish music scene in Kansas City, and in advance of the gig they get a nice write up in the Belleville News Democrat
Years ago, commercial artist Mike Dugger designed a poster for a Kansas City appearance by the Irish group De Dannan. For his work, Dugger received complimentary tickets and went to the show.
I haven’t been right since! Dugger jokes now.
He says he ran out the next morning and bought his first guitar, soon followed by a banjo and fiddle. Now, he travels the world with All-Ireland champion musician Turlach Boylan and English native Justin Murphy, an anthropologist-turned-flutist
Dublin-born, St. Louis-based uilleann piper Tommy Martin is playing this concert with Glen Road, scheduled for 3pm.
Note: De Dannan were originally called Dé Danann (which made sense), and I don’t know why they changed the spelling.

That would be a cool show! I had the opportunity to play with Tommy Martin in Orlando at Disney’s new Irish pub, Raglan Road. He was filling in for one of the members of the house band. A nice, older gentleman (who knew the band) struck up a conversation with me and my wife and then somehow weasled me up on stage. I actually played a couple of tune sets with them on two different nights. I actually blogged about it!

Tommy is a hell of a player and a neat guy! Glen Road is a favorite of ours up here in Nebraska. We’ve played some sessions with them during the KCIFs.
