David Munnelly Band in Chicago, IL
On Thursday March 8, The David Munnelly Band, are performing at the Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago at 8pm.
Honored as the 2004 and 2005 Composer of the Year in Ireland, Mayo’s David Munnelly is a tremendous talent on the button accordion, whose music, if you have a teenage past where people who played accordion were a species of ridicule, will make you feel very guilty.
The band features Andrew Murray, a well-known Galway singer recently named “Male Vocalist of 2006” by Chicago’s Irish American News; Tony Byrne on guitar; David’s younger brother Kieran Munnelly on and flute; and Paul Kelly, an internationally renowned Dublin musician, on fiddle and mandolin.
Tickets are $15. To purchase or for more information call the IAHC at 773-282-7035, ext. 10.

I do indeed have a teenage past where playing the accordian was ridiculed. (Alas, a child of the 80’s) Even if you could play, no one would dare admit it.
This Christmas my teenage son asked for one. I was horrified. I knew if we got him one, he would never have a girl friend or be invited to any social event ever again. Ever. I was concerned.
My husband found him one. On Ebay no less. In fantastic working order. He loves it. He has taken it to school several times and is the bell of the ball. His classmates think he is the coolest thing ever.
I’m sure I’ll think so too when he starts touring with Flogging Molly.
I’m new to your blog, but you’ve made me smile every day since I found it.
Best of luck!
