All-Ireland Sunday
So, the streets of Kansas City were quiet again this morning as tens of thousands of Irish people flocked to central locations to watch Kerry annilihate Mayo in Ireland’s main annual sporting event, the All-Ireland Football Final.
WJMcBride’s Irish Pub in KCK, O’Dowd’s Little Dublin on the Plaza, and The Gaf in Waldo, are among the Setanta customers in the KC region, but I don’t know if any of them opt for the premium level necessary to show championship Gaelic Football - bearing in mind that the last time a pub did, the Irish crowd barely broke double figures. There were twelve of us that day, and after the game we then set about a final meal before initiating revolution in Cuba.
Maybe next year if you’re in Kansas City and wondering how to watch the All-Ireland Football and Hurling Finals (Senior and Minor) and earlier rounds, your best bet is to subscribe to Setanta online, where you’ll need broadband.
Today you didn’t miss much, the game being effectively over after thirteen minutes with Kerry scoring two goals and four points to no reply. It was impossible not to wonder if Dublin might have given Kerry a greater game, but as the captain on my Aer Lingus plane from Dublin said three weeks ago In the All-Ireland semi-final at Croke Park today, the men from Mayo…have beaten Dublin
Kerry 4-15 Mayo 3-5
