How Do You Spell Hooley / Hoolie?
Less often than being asked how certain Irish related words are pronounced, I am asked how to spell certain words.
And one of the words I most often am asked how to spell is “Hooley”.
The thing is though, I don’t care.
I do care about spelling, but in the way that anglicised words are largely gibberish, there’s something about “Hooley” that makes it seem like not a real word.
As far as I know “Hooley” isn’t an anglicisation, but probably because people strive to use it simply in an attempt to make something Irish (which doesn’t work by the way), I could care less about whether you spell it “Hoolie” or “Hooley”.
