Gaelic Football in Arkansas And Kansas City
The Northwest Arkansas News has a feature today on last month’s Rumble in the Rock, the Gaelic Football tournament that included teams from Kansas City, Fayetteville & Little Rock, St Louis, and Springfield.
In 2007, John Wooldridge founded the Little Rock Na Fianna Gaelic Athletic Association Rangers. He also roused interest in Northwest Arkansas, where Brad Pope organized the Northwest Arkansas GAA Rovers. The teams have weekly practices and tournaments. They have Web sites, too: littlerock.arkansas.gaa.ie and nwa.northamerican.gaa.ie.
In May, Bill Hobbs began organizing a new club, the River Valley Volunteers, in Fort Smith.
And despite the article, please don’t start calling the sport Irish Football; it’s Gaelic Football. Please.
The Rangers will be playing in Kansas City in a tournament hosted by the KCGAC on Saturday, June 27, 2009 the Coor Light Midwest Gaelic Classic at the Wizards Training Facility in Swope Park from noon to 6:30pm (Admission is free).
