Frank McCourt To Visit MSU
Irish Author Frank McCourt is scheduled to spend three days at Missouri State University in November.
McCourt’s only public appearance will be on November 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts - for which free tickets are available by calling the MSU box office at 836-7678.
McCourt will speak on his experiences and the importance of education in America, and there’ll be a book-signing thrown in for good measure. The Limerick man (via Brooklyn) is a great speaker and writer, a true raconteur, so if you get the chance to hear him, do take it.
As well as the public lecture, Frank, in the three days (Nov 5-7) at MSU, will also meet privately with area educators, high school and college students and community leaders. He himself of course was a teacher for 27 years in the New York public school system - which is why the third of his memoirs is called Teacher Man.
Incidentally I liked the review by the Irish Times back when ‘Tis, the follow-up to Angela’s Ashes came out. It was titled, ‘Tisn’t. Not a good review. And okay it was just the title I liked.
The News Leader in Springfield has more information.
All of which reminds me that I have a story for you about the filming of Angela’s Ashes from back when I lived in Dublin. And maybe I’ll tell it to you later today between cups of tea 42 and 47.
