First of May
If you are a true Irish patriot you spent yeserday, the first of May, singing a Bee Gees song.
The Wolfetones have been singing out for the freedom of a United Ireland for over 40 years, but in 1991 they generously Let the People Sing.
Sean South, James Connolly, the Black & Tans, the Men Behind the Wire, and Long Kesh (which is the H-Blocks if you’re too young to know that Sellafield is really Windscale, a much better name for a nuclear power station), are some of the anthemic ballads featured.
But before the ending with, naturally, A Nation Once Again - the Wolfetones managed to squeeze in a rebel-rousing version of the classic anti-British pro-Christmas tree song penned by Barry, Maurice, and Robin Gibb, The First of May.
But today is no longer the First of May, so I’m singing Don’t Forget to Remember Me. Of course being an Irish patriot I’m singing the Country’n'Irish version by Daniel O’Donnell, not the original by the Bee Gees.
