Fathers’ Day
Unlike Mothers Day which falls on different days in Ireland and the US, Fathers Day is celebrated on the same day in both countries.
Actually, marked might be a better term to describe its existence in Ireland, rather than celebrated. Despite the prevalence of Hallmark cards, I never heard anybody wish anybody a ‘Happy Fathers Day’ until I moved to the US.
My father is not unusual in not caring for the day, so this morning I called Ireland and spoke to my mother. Here’s a Cork man’s acknowledgement of the day.
To those to whom it matters, have a wonderful day as you enjoy these privileged times.
