Crash & Burn
Scene: Kansas City, cold, sunny, Easter
-You’re awful quiet
-I was born quiet
-Were you born awful?
-That came later
-Our doing?
-Is that a question?
-Have you nothing to say?
-I have lots to say
-Yet you say nothing
-Yes
-You’re too busy?
-I should be
-You’re too lazy?
-A popular answer
-We the people at large, are popular
-And you’re large
-So are you - would you not go for a cycle?
-The bicycle is in a bad humour
-Would it not manage a small one even, so you could at least be seen?
-By who? Kansas City?
-Is it quiet there?
-Today or always?
-Could you not play some music?
-The stereo seems so far away
-Is that a song by U2?
-Not yet, but so close
-And the chances of you having a remote?
-Are remote
-Perhaps you just need a cup of tea
-I never just need a cup of tea
-Quite. Well a walk in the perfect sunshine then
-Do you know how much I hate the perfect sunshine?
-You’re very obstreperous
-I thought I was awful quiet
-For an obstreperous man
-My body has chosen this weekend to crash and to burn
-Why now?
-I have little say in the matter
-Will you be like this much longer?
-Hours probably. Or possibly a couple of months
-But you’re a stereotype, will you not listen to live Irish music tonight?
-I will if I hear it
-It’s spring you know?
-Yes, in both of our countries now
-A time for renewal
-Of library books?
-No, by Mother Nature
-Can’t thank her enough
-Cantankerous
That sounds like a conversation with an Irish Mammy.
