Craobh Rua translates as “Red Branch” in Irish, and Kansas City Irish folk may remember the same name in its English form was adopted by KC’s erstwhile Gaelic Games club.
The Red Branch warriors were the fabled northern lads from the Ulster Cycle of Irish Mythology. They included Cú Chulainn, who you may recall was rather handy with a hurley, especially from a dog’s point of view.
Craobh Rua members:
Brian Connolly - banjo and mandolin
Jim Rainey - guitar and vocals
Conor Lamb - uilleann pipes and tin whistle
Gabe McVarish - fiddle
