Boulevard’s Irish Ale in Irish Beer Guide
The seasonal Irish Ale by Kansas City’s Boulevard Brewing company, is included in a guide to the beers of Ireland and the Irish-style beers of America by Stephen Beaumont on epicurious.
Boulevard Irish Ale
The use of some darker malts give this ale a toasty, almost roasty appeal, while a light, earthy hop bitterness keeps its fruity flavors fully in balance.
The mention that loyalists annually hoard it reminded me that I have here with me what is quite possibly the only bottle of the Kansas City Irish style ale in Ireland. Though in my case it’s hoarded not because I’m a loyalist but because despite how much I like Boulevard’s Pale Ale and Wheat beers, their Irish Ale is not my cup of tea.
Beaumont’s guide is a fine one, and I can’t disagree with the author’s comment on Guinness, though certainly not a bad pint, and my beer of choice, “that its character has been dulled over the past decade and a half”.
