Black 47 at Irish KC
Black 47 are unlike any other rock band regularly categorized as ‘Celtic Rock’.
They are a rock band, with Jazz, Reggae, Rap, Pop, and more, and they let Irish music inform the final sound.
The result is a truly original sound, rather than the cynical harnessing of musical traditions which seems all too common in the noughties.
In Larry Kirwan from Wexford, Black 47 also have one of the strongest writers of lyrics around, and it’s hardly surprising that Kirwan is also a writer.
Very much a product of New York City, the live performances of Black 47 in the Irish pubs of New York, such as Connolly’s, are legendary.
And once in a very green moon, the boys make the trip to the middle of the country and play in Kansas City - always leaving an impression.
