An Irish Lunch with the Four of Us
Yesterday in sunny Kansas City I had lunch at Delahunt’s Cafe &.
And?
Yes.
There were four Irish accents present, a number which in the days of the original WJ McBride’s Irish Pub was deemed to be revolutionary.
Never let more than three of them assemble together was the safety mantra of the American proprietors. Four of us* is possibly against the Patriot Act even, though it’s silly to think that we might have been plotting something together - one of the accents was from Cork and the rest of us couldn’t understand a word he said.
Incidentally I recommend the toasted sandwich with all the stuff on it. I don’t know what it was; I hate having to choose one food over another. Try asking for a Máirtín Multi Meat Melt and maybe they’ll know what you mean.
(* not to be confused with The Four of Us the Irish band who are responsible for the 2003 Travis-sounding single, Sunlight, from the album Heaven and Hell that was voted #4 in the Best Irish Single Ever in a poll by Irish national independent radio station, TodayFM.
Visit their website, to listen to Sunlight or just to marvel at a band called The 4 of Us having a photo depicting just two of them as their main homepage picture.
Or just do a quick catch-up via Wikipedia. Bottom line? If you’re somebody who likes guitar piano mellow pop, faster than The Blue Nile but not as jangly as the Trash Can Sinatras, you’ll probably like very much what the boys are doing these days.
You’ve got to wonder though - how did Mary get on in the Tiger 1.0 years?)
