We quietly passed the 2,000 comments mark the other day; I forgot to throw a party and give the commenter a large screen plasma TV, so we’ll have to wait until the 3,000th comment now.
I’d like to do up a table of commenters, you know, to see who has left the most - just for the crack. Does anyone know if there is a plugin that does such a thing?
I know Flirty has that Commenters’ Tag Cloud thingy but it (understandably) has me split into 2 different commenters - Eolaí and Eolai (without and without the fada), and maybe even the full name of Eolaí gan Fhéile. So for a more accurate plugin you’d need to be able to tell it when to aggregate idenitities into one.
Also since people have been asking lately about the size of Irish KC - I’ll tell you, but I’ll be suitably vague. We’re coming up to post #2,500 but…
There are hundreds of other pages that aren’t strictly speaking posts because I wanted to publish them outside the chronology of the regular feed of posts. So in effect Irish KC has a total of about 3,000 entries on it, however I’m not counting the exact number. There’s also about another 1,000 pages which are groups of posts such as the category and the archive pages - which means I suppose that’s it’s about 4,000 pages overall. But then as my mother says, it’s rude to count.
In other housekeeping news there are still a few posts and comments missing after the webhosting move, but I intend to restore them as soon as I get a chance.
[Update: 6 months after posting and this post attracts a lot of comment spam so, with the conversation long finished anyway, I’m closing comments]
i’ve also used the Commenter’s cloud - on again, off again: it writes to the DB on site load something like 4000 times…
unfortunately, it’s the only commenters counting plugin i’m aware of. if you find you you like, give a holler…
Here’s to another 2,000 and then some.
See you on Friday!
Grandad was bitching about the Cloud too and removed it.
Why not just run a manual DB query once a month or so? Aggregating names would still be a pain to code well though. What if Eolaí and Eolaí gan Fhéile were actually different people? You still need a lot of manual intervention.
Doc - Now ya see I was hoping others would do the work and give me a holler. Thanks. I’ll bear ya in mind.
Medbh - You should be landing in Ireland about now, and since I’m to meet you in a few hours you’ve obviated the need for blogging. I wonder what you look like? I look amazing.
Primal - It’s that manual intervention that really wanted me to find a plugin with options to aggregate entries based on commenter, email, and website. But I wasn’t looking for something quite that manual. Maybe when we reach some landmark (The Cliffs of Moher?) I’ll run a query and play with it.
