‘Oh, the blood, the blood!’ But it’s really funny.
Robert Trussel of the Kansas City Star has more to say on the Irish play, Martin McDonagh’s The Lieutenant of Inishmore which started its run at the unicorn on Friday.
Trussel’s “A Night To Dismember” article focuses on the technical challenges of bringing so much blood and dismemberment to the stage.
This Unicorn-MKC production will use a total of 10 or 12 gallons of “blood” for its entire run (it ends on November 11) compared to the 50 or 60 gallons a week that the Broadway production used.
“the initial idea was that the blood could flow down the surface of the set, collect in a special trough and be pumped backstage to be used again. But technical director Mitch Critel said that turned out to be too expensive.
“So it’s back to the world of shop-vacs and mops,” he said.
