Westport St. Patrick’s Day Run
The 29th Annual Westport St. Patrick’s Day Run takes place, not on St Patrick’s Day, but a week before, on Saturday, March 10, 2007 at 10:00 am.
Where? Westport Rd. & Pennsylvania Ave. Kansas City, MO
No, Really? Start on Pennsylvania south of Westport Rd. Go north to Linwood, east to Gilham, go south kinking in to Warwick at 38th, continue south to 43rd, west to Bridger, north to Westport Rd and then run/walk/crawl east to the finish line.
What? 4-mile run and walk in the centre of Westport
Registration? Online registration closes Tuesday, March 6th at 11:59 pm, and then you’re into Late Registration. Details are all to be found on the Kansas City Sports Commission website
Over 2,000 walkers and runners will be full of the stuff runners and walkers are full of, or St. Patrick’s Day spirit. It’s a family event where you are encouraged to wear green or your favourite wacky Irish costume. Or even a green wacky Irish costume.
There’s also a Kid’s Fun Run scheduled at about 11:15am i.e. before you before head off to get stereotypically sloshed in the bars and restaurants of Westport come lunchtime.
New: Fro 2007 there is DAG chip timing for all participants, which I think means people will know if you stop into Kelly’s before the finish.
There is also an after party at Kelly’s and Joe’s Pizza (don’t ya love that set-up?) for Big 12 Basketball on TV, where your bib or wristband will get you discounts.
Participants are encouraged to raise funds for Redemptorist Social Services Center. Redemptorist serves the poor and aged in Kansas City, and the runners/walkers who raise a really big amount are eligible for prizes - which is what charity is all about.
