The Hothouse Flowers
The Hothouse Flowers are a long established soulful swirling Irish rock band fronted by Liam Ó Maonlaí and Fiachna Ó Braonáin, who fuse elements of Irish traditional music and singing, with the Celtic Soul that Van Morrison invented, together with a big pop and rock sound.
Famously in the 1980s the Flowers went from busking in Dublin to one of the biggest Irish bands around. And then they jumped off the gravy train to concentrate on real life - and consequently their music got better and better. From Sean Nós singing to electronic rock melodies, the Flowers can do it all, and without shoes.
The Hothouse Flowers were a highlight of the 2006 Kansas City Irish Festival. Here’s a video of them in Dublin, back on Grafton Street, where in another age they used to busk, as they perform an acoustic version of Don’t Go:
