The Chieftains in the Midwest
One of the best gigs I ever saw was Iggy Pop.
Around the same time I saw Dudu Pukwana, the Go-Betweens, and The Chieftains. It’s a pity people grow old and die.
Iggy just looks like death, but Dudu is actually long gone, and the Go-Betweens‘ Grant McClennan died last year. The Chieftains however, despite losing harpist Derek Bell, are still going.
And they haven’t simply been going for forty years, they have been magnificent for forty years - so I’m not about to list off why.
On Thursday, March 1, 2007, The Chieftains play at Lied Center for Performing Arts in the University of Nebraska in Lincoln at 7:30 pm- as they continue their tour towards New York on St Patrick’s Day.
Tickets begin at $30 - which is not a price I’d quibble at for these boys and more information, if you really need it, is available HERE
And if your boss doesn’t mind, here’s a video of the Chieftains with some of the Kilfenora Ceilidh Band from Water From The Well
