Reason for Parade Move was Elimination of $25,000 Cost
Other than the change in location of the route from Downtown to Midtown, the other main thing that is different about the Kansas City St Patrick’s Day Parade this year is the absence of barricades separating spectators from the parade (except for a few by the reviewing stand).
“The whole reason for our move was that we needed to eliminate the $25,000 cost” of renting the barricades, said parade senior co-chairman Erin Kiekbusch. “So we took it to a street that was a little wider and that the police felt was more accommodating.”
Now that at least makes a lot more sense that the nonsense of moving the parade so that it’s in the more Irish part of the city. The Kansas City Star has the full story.
