When Did You Quit & Leave?
People have been emailing me about when I left an Irish fest that I worked for in Kansas City several years ago, and when I left America.
Both of these facts are already documented here on Irish KC, but I’ll repeat them.
As stated on the About Me page:
I created and maintained the websites of the Brookside Irish Fest, Westport Irish Fest, and Kansas City Irish Festival. I created the KC Irish Fest Blog in 2003 and authored it from the beginning until January 2006.
Specifically it was on January 12, 2006 that I quit.
I left the country on September 10, 2007.
So I left the country 1 year and 8 months after quitting the Irish Fest (and, by inclusion, the writing of the Irish Fest blog). In that 1 year and 8 months before I left the country, 2 Irish fests were to take place and be blogged about by my successor.
The decision to leave the country was announced the evening before Thanksgiving 2006, 10 months after I quit the festival and 10 months before I returned to Ireland. In that time an Irish fest without my involvement had taken place and been blogged about.
My reasons for leaving the country were personal. My reasons for quitting the Irish fest 20 months before then were business reasons.
I don’t believe that it would do anybody any good to make those reasons public all these years later, and I was comfortable with how things were left between myself and the festival’s Executive Director, Keli O’Neil Wenzel, who told me she felt the same.
In a long post 2 years ago, shortly after leaving the festival, I elaborated on my feelings towards the festival and those who worked for it. (See point #7 in this post).
Over time those feelings were to change. The date I quit the festival and the date I left the country haven’t changed however, and neither have either set of reasons.
UPDATE: Irish Fest Director Dan Regan “apologises”, and then withdraws the apology.
