Nobody’s Child #49
It’s coming up to the Eurovision. Dustin the Turkey is Ireland’s entry this year and because of the poor finish by the Irish entry last year Dustin will have to compete in the semi-final rather than go straight into the final on Saturday.
I introduced my son to Dustin many years ago, first through audio tapes I had made from the television back when Dustin first went on air in the early 1990s, and later through Dustin’s own CDs.
And when he visited Ireland with me he got to watch Dustin himself on the box on Irish television.
So like everything the coming Eurovision makes me think of my son.
A year ago when living in Kansas City I wrote these words:
Mr Moo was with me yesterday watching the Eurovision - he got a bit of a kick out of it because he could compare it to American Idol - the Pop Idol clone thing over here, and he was also tickled by my forecasting of the votes every round. He would normally be with me until 6pm but he went back to his mother’s this morning because of it being Mother’s Day over here. I get the reverse treatment whenever Father’s Day is. He used the materials my sister gave him to make his card.
