Nine Mule Burn
Not long before I arrived in Kansas City, seven years, eight months and four days ago, I went for walk in northern England. An eighty mile walk from Ulverston north through the magnificent Lake District to Carlisle - the Cumbria Way, with a couple of little detours.
Had I continued from Cumbria on into Scotland I would have found myself in the small hamlet of Nine Mile Burn just before reaching Edinburgh. It’s a town that lends its name to a Scottish traditional tune. And to a band in Kansas City, Missouri.
Rebecca Pringle, Bill Banks, Tim Zans, and Willy Peterson is the current line-up of the band called Nine Mile Burn which plays traditional and original Celtic music with rock, jazz and classical infuences. In varying line-ups they have been playing since back when you were tall and thin.
And the acoustic version of Nine Mile Burn is Nine Mule Burn, consisting of Rebecca Pringle and Bill Banks, and ensuring that Rebecca and Bill snag two of the best group names around.
Nine Mule Burn perform concerts occasionally around the metro area at such venues as the Kansas City Renaissance Festival and the Christ United Methodist Church, in Independence, Missouri.
And somewhere called Clayton Estates - which I believe is in Independence, but what do I know, I’m from Ireland.
