Luka Bloom
Luka Bloom is an Irish singer-songwriter, innovative and traditional, with a style of guitar playing his own playing rhythm and lead simultaneously. Famously Bloom is a reinvention of himself, born of his original identity of Barry Moore, younger brother of Christy Moore, on a flight to America emigrating from Ireland.

The Kildare man decided on a new name, reportedly drawing his surname from the main character in Joyce’s Ulysses, and his first name from the Suzanne Vega song My Name is Luka. Hard work and recognition continued, and Bloom is a now legendary addition to the pantheon of Irish folk singers and songwriters.

Scheduled to play the Kansas City Irish Fest for the first time in 2006, Luka Bloom unfortunately had to cancel his performance on the Boulevard Pub stage on the Saturday evening, September 2, due to a throat infection. The opportunity to see Luka in a tent had many of us drooling, but maybe we can just drool for another year.
