KC Star Bookclub & Irish Author
Whenever I’ve read Irish author John Banville I’ve found him flat, which is a tad odd considering how great a stylist he is. That said, I have yet to read The Book of Evidence despite long wanting to.
The Kansas City Star made me chuckle today, because its FYI Bookclub discussed Banville’s The Sea and used the following words to describe the narrator - when he was a little boy:
curious • melancholy • morbid • a sad little boy • defined by the things he didn’t have • starving for any kind of attention or affection • doesn’t seem to have any fun
The consensous of the book club seems to be that the book is beautifully written, but the participants wouldn’t recommend it to anybody.
