Irish Report on Cannes
Twice in the last month you could have seen Mitra Tabidian perform a couple of songs as a guest singer during Eddie Delahunt’s Wednesday shows at O’Dowd’s Irish Pub on the Plaza.
And both times you would have heard the entire pub stop dead and just listen.
The Triffid only has a day, but as the Fuchsia Band Man, Mairtin de Cogain, told us back at the start of the year, the Fuchsia has a whole year. And what a year it is becoming.
At 6.15 p.m. on the 18th of May, Máirtín and his girlfriend Mitra arrived at the Majestic Hotel for a soiree where they met up with the cast and crew of the film, The Wind That Shakes The Barley.
At 7 p.m. local time, they walked the 500 yards down the packed streets toward the Palais for the World premiere of this Irish feature. As the group reached the red carpet flashes shot from every camera around.
Máirtín said:
It was an amazing feeling just to be there, but the best part of it was unreal altogether. As we found our seats to watch the movie the night seemed all a blur and when the crowd stood up at the end and applauded for 10 minutes we didn’t know where to look.
As we were brought outside to a line of paparazzi held and driven back by the festival bouncers, Óró Sé do Bheatha Bhaile could be heard coming through the sound system
Máirtín’s voice of course! Máirtín sings two songs in the movie. After that they were whisked away in the Festival’s cars to a party down the Croisette on the beach. An unforgettable night for Máirtín and Mitra.
