Irish New Year’s Eve at The Gaf
There are a number of Irish people planning on going to The Gaf on Wornall in Waldo at Romanelli for the 6pm celebration of Irish New Year’s Eve.
This is because of the time difference of six hours between Ireland and Kansas City, and not because Irish people in Ireland have a habit of celebrating things at six pm - except The Angelus or The Simpsons, of course.
So if you’re not lucky enough to have a ticket for Eddie Delahunt’s heated tented musiced Irish New Year’s extravaganza at Café & (or are not on the standby list), and you want to be at an Irish party hugging in a non sexual way people with Irish accents, The Gaf might be your man.
Ordinarily of course The Gaf is closed on Sundays, because as we all know the Lord rested on the seventh day. Except when it fell on a New Year’s Eve and he went looking for an Irish pub in whatever time zone he was busying himself, and a calculator to work out when to celebrate at the same time as people in Ireland.
So yes, the Irish pub with the inappropriate Dublin slang name, The Gaf, is open on Sunday, New Year’s Eve.
