Irish Dancing Lessons from Colin Dunne
The nearest to Kansas City Colin Dunne is giving his Irish Dance Masterclass is in Lincoln, Nebraska from July 7-9.
Having followed in Michael Flatley’s footsteps in Riverdance, Dunne is perhaps the most highly regarded of the various Riverdance leads.
Colin is certainly the most highly regarded if all you read is his official website where the home page proclaims him “the greatest Irish Dancer in the world”, and lest you be in any doubt, the internal Flash home page trumpets him as “without doubt the greatest Irish Dancer in the World”
The other venues for the Irish Dancing Masterclass are Dallas, TX; Jackson, MS; Raleigh, NC; Nashville, TN, Washington D.C.; and Quebec in Canada.
You pay for beginning to advanced level master classes in soft shoe and heavy shoe, at a cost of $140 for the two days.
As well as Riverdance Dunne co-produced and choreographed the acclaimed Dancing on Dangerous Ground, and has completed Dancing at the Depot, a British reality TV show where he taught Irish dancing to bus drivers. The DVD of that gem will be shown at the Irish Dance Masterclass meet and greet.
Colin Dunne is also the star of last year’s The Bull - which used Táin Bó Cuailnge the way Joyce used The Odyssey for Ulysses and was
what the Irish Times called “sensationally unsettling”, “delieriously funny”, “awesomely savage” - “the first great piece of theatre about the new hyped-up 21st Century Ireland”.
The best joke of all is that the last Irish production to carry this kind of visceral surprise and stunning immediacy was Riverdance
Maybe that is best of all, but it’s not bad that the Irish Dance show within the show, in which Colin is the lead dancer, is called Celtic Bitch.
