Irish Boxer Fagan Fights in Wichita, KS
Did you know there’s an Irish boxer from Ireland based in Oklahoma? I didn’t.
Oisin Fagan is from Dublin but based in Oklahoma, and tomorrow night he fights Josh Hammock in Wichita before returning to Ireland for a fight on the Bernard Dunne - Reidar Walstad undercard in June.
Among other things I miss about Ireland, I miss people talking about boxing.
If you’re American and unfamiliar with the name “Oisin” it is pronounced “Ush-een”. Think Téada and Oisín McDiarmada.
Tomás Rohan has the story on Irish-Boxing.com:
Fagan is also looking forward to his first fight back home since he won the Irish light welterweight title with a stoppage win over Jeff Thomas almost 12 months ago. “I love fighting at home and that possibility will act as a great motivator for me to win in Kansas tomorrow night.”
UPDATE: Irish fighter Fagan wins by a knockout in the first round.

Yeah, I know Fagan. He’s from Dublin originally and has been over here in OKC for about 8 years on and off. I do a bit of PR work for him. He’s a cool guy. A schoolteacher, has 2 degrees in Political Journalism and PE, is the Oklahoma Lightweight title holder and the Irish junior-welterweight champ. He fights at Americas Pub on Mead, Wichita, KS. tomorrow (17th May)- go support your boy!

Thanks very much Barry.
Alas it’s a bit far from KC for my bicycle, but I wish Oisin good luck.
It seems like you guys(Americans that is!) have all our good boxers at the moment, Oisin Fagan, John Duddy, Andy Lee. But I guess that’s where the opportunities are for young boxers. Do you get to see any of the RTE fights in the US?
