GAA: Irish Sport in Kansas City
A reminder. Today, Sunday, 28 Sep, 2008 is huge when it comes to things Irish in Kansas City.
It’s a first and it won’t cost you anything.
So get yourself to Swope Park for 4:30pm and watch Kansas City’s first ever game of Gaelic Football.
There are all kinds of things in Kansas City claiming to be Irish, or pretending to be Irish, but a game of Gaelic Football is Irish, pure and simple. In the first year of its existence, the KC Gaelic Athletic Club has organised this game, fittingly, on the Sunday following the All-Ireland Gaelic Football Final in Dublin.
They’ve even organised the weather for you. Bring a chair, bring drinks. Sit on the chair during the game; drink the alcohol in the pavilion after the game.
Ulster are playing Connacht. It’s like the Táin Bó Cúailnge in modern day KC. You surely have a connection to one of those 2 Irish provinces, so pick one and cheer it on.
The Celtic Ranch Cup takes place at the Wizards facility in Swope Park at 63rd and Lewis. My sources on the inside tell me that the team in white are going to beat the team in green and navy, but why don’t you go and see if they’re right?
