Dempsey’s - New Irish Pub for Lawrence, KS
Dempsey’s Irish Pub is the new Irish-themed bar in Lawrence, Kansas, being opened by Steve Gaudreau the owner of Quinton’s, another downtown Lawrence drinking-and-dining establishment.
Located at 623 Vermont St, the home for many years of Rick’s Place, Dempsey’s Irish Pub is opening in time for the drop in retail that is Easter’s holy week and Spring-break combined.
Gaudreau isn’t worried though, because it’s also opening for St Patrick’s Day:
“I’ll still be ironing out the kinks,” said Gaudreau, owner of the new Dempsey’s Irish Pub, “But if I open up and get slammed (with customers), I’ll still be ready.”
The story is in the Lawrence Journal-World by Mark Fagan.
I must confess that I love the notion of the clash of St Patrick’s Day with holy week causing shelving problems for retailers:
With the holiday just six days before Easter, many retailers are finding that they don’t have enough space on their shelves to promote shamrocks and Easter bunnies at the same time
So then, another Irish pub for the region. There must be a fierce number of Irish people around. Good luck to Steve and to Dempsey’s Irish Pub.
[…] We went to a poetry reading our friend Rob hosted, and then after eating some dinner, we went to a new-ish Irish pub Ben’s been wanting to check out. Here are some pics from our evening with Jen last night. […]
Skip Dempsey’s. The food might be great but the customer
service is awful. My wife and I went to Dempsey’s on
March 12th, 2011 at a time when it was not even busy and
yet we were never waited on. We waited for 20 minutes and
three waitresses walked right past us without offering to
take our order. I hope the owners of Dempsey’s fire the
awful waitresses who feel doing their job is beneath them.
For a better burger experience in Lawrence go to the Burger
Stand at the Casbah on Mass Street. Ignoring customers
is never good business, we will never go back to Dempsey’s.
