Damien Rice in Denver, Dallas and Chicago
But not Kansas City for the Irish singer. Or Lawrence, Kansas, like last time. Damien Rice’s tour of the US and Canada, where he is mostly a guest of Fiona Apple - starts in two days time on June 23rd in California.
The nearest to Kansas City Damien’s tour gets is:
• July 5 in Denver, CO at City Lights Pavilion
• July 8 in Dallas, TX at Nokia Theatre
• July 13 in Chicago, IL at Charter One Pavilion
However as Lisa Hannigan is not in the band this time, I won’t be cycling the several hundred miles to see Damo. Fans of Vyvienne Long’s renditions of Seven Nation Army and Purple Haze on her cello, will however be happy to know that she is performing in Damien’s band on this tour.
And it all ends in time for the big Irish festival in September, the Electric Picnic in Laois, where Damien Rice is not just performing, but curating a whole stage. Hmmm.
For what it’s worth, Damien Rice’s gig of April 2004 in Lawrence, Kansas together with support from The Frames, is my top Irish gig in the region of the last two years.
If you’re not familiar with Rice’s music, think of him as an Irish version of a combination of Leonard Cohen and Nina Simone. If you are familiar with his music, ignore me.
