Damien McCarron shows Promise
Before he indulged us, Damian McCarron of Colorado’s The Indulgers went through a phase as Damien Promise. Far away in America he recorded songs of his home city Dublin and his hometown Howth (Binn Eadair). And Damien has now made those songs of Promise available for us.
In the late seventies in Dublin, Liam Reilly’s Bagatelle took a bus route from the Southside - the 46A - and elevated it into an archetypal Dublin experience. Far more interesting bus routes like the 18 or the 75, or any of those that crossed the river to more than a teminus, like the 19A or the 11, were surely more deserving of such citywide iconic status. But I guess they just didn’t scan right. (See a YouTube video of Summer in Dublin on this post)
Well Damien now gives the Northside its due attention, in Dublin Bus terms, with detailed instructions even of where and what bus to catch from Dublin city centre out to Howth. You’re not a DART man then Damo?
A Matter of Indulgence is the title of the eight-track CD, and you can listen to four tracks on Damien Promise’s MySpace
Once upon-a-balmy evening The Indulgers were part of a perfect night’s entertainment in Kansas City’s Berkley Park, where hoards of people between the Missouri River and downtown KC were also treated to the voice of Ireland’s Niamh Penston, the fusion of Brett Gibson’s Residence Rules and the power of Seven Nations. There was a lot of smiling that night - and not all of it inane.
