Chocolate and Genitals Cancels Jesus
Well that didn’t take long.
The planned exhibition in New York over Easter, that we mentioned yesterday, of the sculpture of a naked crucified Jesus made out of chocolate, has been cancelled due to pressure from the religious right.
There’s more in the Guardian including this gem:
Bill Donahue, president of the Catholic League, said the work was a direct assault on Christians. “All those involved are lucky that angry Christians don’t react the way extremist Muslims do when they’re offended.”
Tell me again the Christian way to react angrily.
Specifically the article says that the group [the Catholic League] objected to the fact that the sculpture is made of more than 200lbs of chocolate and that the figure’s genitalia are on display. So chocolate and genitals are objected to then, by angry Christians who don’t object to the single biggest celebration of Easter being the eating of testicle-shaped chocolates.
So if it was a painting of a naked Jesus, or a sculpture made out of stone, would the crazy Christian right have objected then? Are they really argueing about materials? Or is it all about the genitals - as if there haven’t been countless depictions of a naked Christ before?
Why isn’t a country as big and strong as the US capable of slapping down basket (of Easter eggs) cases when they flex their reactionary ignorant muscles?
Chocolate Santa, your days are numbered. Especially if you’re seen anywhere near any Maltesers.
Ehm, what’s going to happen when David Yallop’s new book is published in the US? I have a feeling the (supposedly moderate) catholics will be acting like the muslims they seem to hate (misunderstand).
