Bloomsday 2009 in Kansas City
The annual Bloomsday celebration in Kansas City, organized by Bloomsday Books will be celebrated in 2009 just as in the previous, something like 13 or 14, years.
This will be the 2nd year that Bloomsday Books is celebrating the day it is named after, since it moved to a solely virtual existence.
Details are still being formulated, but first things first - save the date: June 13, 2009 (the Saturday before the actual Bloomsday which is on June 16 every year)
Here’s what else we know so far:
• Bloomsday ‘09 will be held at the Plaza Library.
• The incomparable Sylvia Stoner will once again be the director for the traditional highlight (and always great fun), Ulysses in Nighttown performance.
• Beer will be present, so it will.
Update: Eddie Delahunt will perform at the Bloomsday celebration in the Plaza Library. Eddie has 6pm down at the time, so I’d bear that in mind.
Details for music and times, etc. are still being worked out and I’ll post them as soon as they are. Until then mark the date on your calendar and plan to be at what was always my favourite day of the Kansas City Irish calendar. I won’t be there this year though, as once again I’ll be celebrating my native Dublin’s most famous literary day, well, in Dublin.
Since Tom and Nancy Shawver don’t have their wonderful physical shop anymore, you probably miss them, and they certainly miss you - so make plans for June 13, 2009.
This event is, or will be very soon, posted on the Kansas City Irish events calendar.
