Blog Reactions to 2007 Festival at Crown Center
Here are some reactions to the festival in Crown Center over Labor Day weekend.
They are as I found them. I didn’t write them.
I wasn’t at the festival myself so there is no reaction from me.
These links are just from Blogs and Forums:
• Meltatum took Friday off work unnecessarily due to schedule discrepancies.
• Cable Car had a rollicking good time watching the Elders perform “in front of a crowd of 20,000 or so crazy drunk Irish Kansas Citians”.
• Silverforce enjoyed the setting, Solas, and Gaelic Storm despite sound problems.
• Jenn thought the Irish may well know how to have a good time but not at the festival they don’t, having been charged an admission fee solely for the right to spend more money. Bizarrely no mention is made of any of the music or other entertainment.
• The Cyber Monk struggled with the whole Missouri-Kansas business as did the band they came to see, Gaelic Storm.
• ScooterJ had major problems getting served beer.
• Tyff & Jeff were almost late for the wedding they were photographing because of a festival parade I was unaware of.
• mljm particularly enjoyed the Feis finding the dancing spellbinding.
• DangerBoy loves the festival but felt let down spending money to wait 30 minutes in line for food and drink, and then fight for space.
• Large Sock thought “every performer I saw looked like they were thrilled to be up there and damn proud to be Irish”.
• Aranel Erynion found Gaelic Storm particularly entertaining.
• GailV and family enjoyed the O’Riada Irish Dancers, and the Feis, though overall the event “served to remind us that we really don’t like street fairs that much” despite being infected by The Fuchsia Band’s rendition of the Sawdoctors‘ favourite, Joyce Country Ceili Band.
• Meltamum may not go again unless the horrific sound is addressed.
• Jacklin1 posted photos.
• Stacy knows more about festival poop than I do.
• All Things KC thought things looked great and loved the easy parking.
• Alasse-Fae posted the Top 10 Phrases from the festival.
• Elders ‘ fans on their messageboard have mixed feelings about Crown Center as a location given the crowds and how they were managed.
• Ages ago I decided not to publicize Fred Phelps’ latest feelings on Ireland as prompted by an invitation to speak at a university in Ireland - though I forget why I made that decision. It’s trickier to ignore their pathetic presence at an Irish event in Kansas City however. I knew the Westboro Baptist Church were planning to protest at the festival but it didn’t seem like much of a protest anyway, and Nice Deb duly ignored it on her way to the festival mass. And Back To Rockville reported that the Phelps’ protest made the news in Ireland

You have Kelly on 9/8 at the Spinish Festival at 7pm. I show the fest is from 9am-5pm and Kelly is playing from 12pm-1pm and again at 4pm-5pm.
You’re right on both counts Earlene.
My time is from a very old announcement and I haven’t got around to changing it since details were worked out - but I will now, thanks. And I’ll post a reminder on it as well to clear up those times.
Thank You!
Regarding one person’s comment that no Guinness at an Irish Fest is odd… Milwaukee Irish Fest also doesn’t have Guinness. I believe their fest beer is all local and regional Breweries. Of which they have several. Besides, it’s not like the Guinness on tap here in the U.S. tastes like the Guinness in Ireland.
