2009 Brookside St Patrick’s Warm-Up Parade
Strictly speaking Snake Saturday as a name belongs to the Irish festival in the Northland on the Saturday preceding St Patrick’s Day, but when you go naming a day, don’t be surprised to see that name applied to other events on the same day.
The 2009 Annual St. Patrick’s Day Warm-Up Parade takes place at 2pm on Saturday, March 14, 2009 the same day as the Snake Saturday Parade in North Kansas City.
Here’s a photo of the parade I took 3 years ago on 63rd Street:

I’ve been to this parade a few times, and in fact the last time I attended it I was in it, playing the Irish Tin Whistle (yes I was. I was) as part of the group representing Bloomsday Books. I’ve alos brought relatives fro Ireland to it, because I felt they should witness how much I was suffering.
More than 100 organizations representing groups and families of all ages participate in this family-oriented event. Parade entries march or ride in a variety of vehicles from red wagons to floats to classic cars. Entries include the MidAmerica Freedom Marching Band, the KC Ukesters Band, drill teams, horses, dogs, and people just walking and waving.
Parade Route
It starts at 2:00pm and lasts approximately 1 and a half hours. The parade follows the route it’s been following for years, beginning at 65th and Wornall and then heading:
North on Wornall to 63rd St.
East on 63rd St to Main
South on Main St. to Meyer Blvd.
West on Meyer Blvd. to Brookside Rd.
People
The Grand Marshal of this year’s parade is Dr. Charles Wheeler; I imagine you’ve heard of him. For the 2009 parade Mr. and Mrs. Irish is Jan and Lonnie Buerge, owners and operators of World’s Window, located in Brookside and celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
