Blacklisted Terms

As of March 19, 2008 the following words and terms are all blacklisted. That means if you use any of them when you attempt to leave a comment on Irish KC they get zapped instantly.

They are not here to stop you leaving comments, or even to stop you using any of them - they are blacklisted because they are used so commonly in spam comments and unfortunately after a time it becomes much more efficient to blacklist a term rather than manually delete several hundred comments.

When I say zapped it means I never get to see them nor can I rescue them. They do not make it into moderation. It’s always a good idea when leaving comments, especially lengthy ones or ones with links, to save them yourself first. If you do not get the message that your comment is awaiting moderation, then it has gone zappo.

Notable terms to cause problems are pharmaceutical and sex words, and also car brands. Oh and Canadian domain names. Sorry! Also sometimes during a heavy spam attack I temporarily blacklist a name and when the attack has relented remove it again.

Note also that if a blacklisted term constitutes even part of a word you use - such as the way the word “Jeepers” contains the term “jeep” - then I’m afraid that too will cause your comment to be zapped.

If you need to use a word or term that is blacklisted, get inventive with your spelling or try using substitute characters. This blacklist is solely designed to help me manage spam. Ideally I should be not doing this and instead using an automatic anti-spam tool, but the last time I tried to implement one it took me 3 days to repair the damage it caused.
