CeltFest moves Islands
The third annual CeltFest at Odessa College in Texas took place over the weekend, and the organizer is pleased because it finally brought non-Celtic people to understand his culture:
This is great because the focus has always been on education. It’s great that we’re having so many people here having fun, but people learning about Celtic heritage is the reason we have this festival, said festival director Fil Guinn.
And then the Odessa American goes on to list the seven nations of the culture:
comprised of Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Cornwall, the Isle of Mann, all in Great Britain, Brittany in France and Galacia in northern Spain
Actually only Wales, Scotland, and Cornwall are in Great Britain, as Great Britain is an island, and itself is part of a state that calls itself the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (though there’s been a bit of a dispute about that for the last eighty-odd years) Prior to that the UK styled itself the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (and for a hundred odd years there was a bit of trouble over that one too). The Isle of Man also loses its island status in the Odessa American, but hey, it’s good that people are learning about Celtic heritage.
