Once upon a time the bus home from town had its terminus on Bachelors Walk. You’d wait by the river’s granite wall. In the rain. Now there’s a boardwalk there. With umbrellas.
Apart from the wonderful cross-views that the Liffey creates as it gently snakes through Dublin’s city centre, the two river views I enjoy the most are east from beyond the Custom House and the Loop Bridge out into the bay where I’ve most left and returned to the country, and west along the river into the setting sun. Because that’s the way home, a gash of space where northside and southside mesh.
