Bono Enjoys Not Knowing
Yesterday's Kansas City Star carries an AP article on the Samuel Beckett centenary in Dublin I told you about last week. Bono pops up again:
I'm a fan, Bono said at the festival's Dublin Castle launch, revealing that he'd once given Beckett a copy of U2's 1985 album, The Unforgettable Fire. Bono said he often did not understand Beckett's work, but I have enjoyed not knowing. He blew my mind, that is all I can sayIt's too late for you to go see Waiting for Godot I told you about last month at the Westport Coffeehouse, but maybe this week, say Thursday the actual centenary of Beckett's birth, you could mark it by waiting for something that doesn't come (happiness, money or love for example), and as Beckett would say, face your own nothingness.
And heck while you're at it, cherish bleakness, it's an Irish thing. Have a great day!
