Irish Pay Deal & Migrants

The Peace Process, Dublin celebrating its pseudo-millenium, Ireland beating England in Stuttgart, the making of Far and Away, the growth of I.T. in the US, Michael Flatley in an ad break, and the Dolphin in Dingle, are all given as causes for Ireland's Celtic Tiger economy of the 1990s.

Most academics and politicians credit national pay deals, with foreign investment and low corporate tax rates, for its creation. The Celtic Tiger boom ended in 2001, and Ireland's economic performance has gone down and up since.

Right now Ireland is in the throes of thrashing together a new national pay deal, ideally one that will last for ten years. Called 'Social Partnerhip', this time Ireland has its own immigration issues, and with it migrant labour laws to work out for all workers, migrant or not reside in one of the most expensive places to live in Europe.
